Founders Day

  • Greenwood, BC Canada (map)

I'll be at the Community Market!

I’ll have a booth at the community market this weekend, and I’d love to connect with you. Whether you have a concern to share, an idea for the future, or just want to say hello, please stop by. I’m here to listen and to represent the voices of Boundary-Similkameen.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Founders Day is a beloved annual tradition in Greenwood, British Columbia—Canada’s smallest city. Held each summer, it celebrates the founding of Greenwood and honours the rich heritage of this resilient community.

Established in 1897 during the height of the Boundary region’s mining boom, Greenwood quickly became a bustling hub for copper and gold mining. At its peak, the city boasted smelters, hotels, and a thriving downtown core. Despite economic shifts and the eventual closure of the smelter in the 1910s, Greenwood remained a tight-knit and proud community.

Founders Day is a time for locals and visitors to come together and celebrate Greenwood’s pioneering spirit. The day typically includes a lively parade, family-friendly activities, local vendors, historical displays, live music, and community spirit. It also serves as a reminder of Greenwood’s unique past—including its role as a safe haven for Japanese Canadians interned during World War II.

Whether you’re a lifelong resident or a first-time visitor, Founders Day is a wonderful way to experience the warmth and history of this remarkable little city.
